Matcha has become the darling of the tea world over the last decade, but this majestic and powerful style of tea has been enjoyed for centuries. Beginning with the perfect cultivar and then shade-grown in the perfect terroir, these plants further increased their nutritional value and content by being shade-grown. The leaves are then carefully picked before being artfully steamed and dried. Finally, they are stone-ground into a fine powder. When matcha is prepared, the entire leaf is consumed, leading to the unparalleled nutritional and caffeine content of matcha.

This is the quality of matcha that has been used and enjoyed for hundreds of years in the Chenoyu, or Japanese tea ceremonies. Its deep emerald green hue is as beautiful as it gets. Brewing recommendations: the “traditional” amount of matcha per serving is about one teaspoon per 8-12oz of 170° water. This will vary depending on personal taste or if the matcha is whisked in a bowl versus blended for serving in a mug, as well as the size of the desired serving. You can whisk the matcha with a blender, directly in a cup with a kitchen whisk, in a bowl with a traditional bamboo whisk, or even in a protein-powder blender bottle. The goal is to suspend the powder in the warm water so it doesn’t congeal at the bottom of the vessel. Some settling after whisking will occur.
